When we talk about health and safety, we usually picture construction sites with loads of heavy machinery and risks at every turn. But the office can be just as risky, especially because overlooking its dangers can make us even less alert.
That said, the prevention strategies can be just as simple as laying down a carpet instead of tile to prevent falls, hiding cables which might cause people to trip, or keeping clutter to a minimum to prevent collapsing shelves. Because safety is a holistic enterprise, it should also include wellness. A big part of this is using furniture and equipment designed with an ergonomic purpose but also training employees on how to properly adjust and use it to their benefit.
Of course, as much as you try, sometimes matters are out of your hands–which is why the best defense is to always be prepared and have a plan.
